Watch MythTV on Windows
MythTV Player reads files from a mythtv backend. It is not yet fully baked but it works pretty nicely.
DirectShow Filters for NUV files to work on windows. This allows you to play MythTV .NUV files with regular windows media software like Media Player Classic. It includes a NUV ->AVI converter. The downside is that you must access the files through the file system which means that you cannot see the title or episode description of each file.
Tapeworm sounds interesting. I have not tried this yet but it sounds promising. It gives you a way to copy files from the mythtv backend to your computer/laptop for later viewing on the road. Very nice feature.

Tapeworm is the best
A while after I posted this entry I figured out how to use Tapeworm. It totally kicks ass. Although I had some setup problems, once I figured it out it works nicely.
Problem highlights:
- to get access to the MySQL port on my mini-itx Ubuntu box I have to SSH and use a tunnel for port 3306 (i.e. on Putty use source port: 3306, destination: localhost:3306).
- The files exist on the ubuntu box as well. I use samba to access that. I.E. in Tapeworm the MythTV server video directory is \\ubuntu-box\user\movies\
- the mysql user is default mythv/mythtv
- the mysql server IP is localhost (thus the tunnel)
- mythtv db name is default == mythconverg

MythWeb is super helpful
I strongly recommend using the mythweb plugin for MythTV. It lets you schedule recordings using a web interface that feels much faster and is easier to use than the native interface. The advantage is that I can control the recordings from anywhere in my apartment.
On my home system I access MythWeb with my WinXP laptop to schedule recordings. Then, when I want to watch something I play it through tapeworm on my laptop. It's nice to watch last night's episode of "Moral Orel" before bed.
I suppose most people would prefer to watch on their normal TVs but my setup is slightly broken because my MythTV installation always crashes when I try to play videos.
